An unknown man has been shooting at city equipment in Portland, causing “hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage,” police said.
The Portland Police Bureau this week released surveillance-camera video from the morning of May 27 that shows a driver pull a car to the side of a road near Southeast 102nd Avenue and Washington Street, get out and apparently fire a gun at something high up.
The car is a “black or charcoal-colored 2008-2014 Subaru WRX sedan with no license plates,” police said. “It has a hood scoop, low-profile spoiler with red LED brake-light strip, black wheels and rain deflectors on the doors.”
In the video, the man is wearing glasses, a coat with a hood and black pants, and his handgun has a tactical light, police said.
Police are trying to identify the suspect and ask anyone who might have information about this case to email crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov.
Officials have not said what city property the suspect has damaged, citing “investigative reasons.”
In recent years the Pacific Northwest has seen a series of attacks on critical infrastructure, prompting the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to warn of domestic terrorists targeting electrical grids and other such equipment.
In April, a Washington man pleaded not guilty to charges accusing him of damaging power stations in Clackamas County.
