Body of acclaimed Portland chef Naomi Pomeroy recovered from Oregon river

The body of Naomi Pomeroy, an acclaimed Portland chef, was recovered from the Willamette River on Wednesday, days after she drowned in a tubing accident, authorities said.

Her body was found about a half-mile upstream of Hyak Park between Corvallis and Albany, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The sheriff’s office said people canoeing spotted a body and called it in. Deputies arrived and found Pomeroy’s body, identified by descriptions they had been given, in a shallow section of bedrock near the middle of the river with about one to two feet of water. The body was found about 9.5 miles downstream from where she drowned, Lt. Toby Bottorff said in an email.

Pomeroy, 49, was reported lost in the river after a weekend tubing accident with family and friends.

The sheriff’s office said it had released Pomeroy’s body to a funeral home and notified her family.
