Intel confirms ‘multibillion-dollar’ Oregon expansion plans
Intel is among the world’s largest technology manufacturers and one of the most advanced semiconductor companies. It’s also Oregon’s largest corporate employer, with 22,000 assigned to its campuses in Washington County. Founded in 1968 by Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore — the latter known for Moore’s Law, an observation that computer power would roughly double every two years — Intel opened its first Oregon factory in 1976. Intel ultimately chose Oregon to be its main research site, and though company headquarters remain in California, the chipmaker employs more in Washington County than anywhere else it operates.
