A man was found shot to death in a motel parking lot in Northeast Portland late Saturday, police said.
Police didn’t identify the man or the motel in a news release about the 11:48 p.m. fatal shooting but said it took place in the 3600 block of Northeast 82nd Avenue, an area that The Oregonian/OregonLive chronicled in 2022 as a microcosm of Portland’s ongoing battle with gun violence, homelessness, addiction and sex trafficking.
No suspects remained at the scene, and police made no arrests, they said.
The man’s death marked the 37th of 38 suspected homicides in Portland so far this year. At this time last year, when the overall number of homicides had fallen from record highs set in 2021 and 2022, Portland had recorded 46 homicides.
Police ask anyone with information about this shooting to contact Detective Meghan Burkeen at Meghan.Burkeen@police.portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-2092 or Detective Brian Sims at Brian.Sims@police.portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-2079, and reference case number 24-168278.
