Portland’s weekend weather saw highs in the 90s both days and warm and dry weather continues into the work week.
The National Weather Service says some low cloud cover could make its way into the metro area early Monday, but those clouds will quickly clear leaving another sunny day with the high temperature reaching near 88 degrees.
Highs in the 90s return by Tuesday when the flow aloft turns more southerly. Portland will see a high temp of about 96 degrees. There is the potential of a few areas of the Willamette Valley to reach triple digits. Current models show a 40-50% chance of reaching 100 degrees in areas from Salem to Canby and in the Hood River area.
A system out of northern California will begin moving northward on Tuesday and may carry some instability into southern Oregon and possibly along the Cascades. There’s currently a 10-20% chance of thunderstorms from the afternoon into the overnight hours east of Interstate 5. Fire danger will be high as forest fuels have dried out with all the recent hot and dry weather.
Wednesday’s high temps will moderate a bit due to an increase in marine air moving into the valleys. The morning may be cloudy and some of those clouds could stick around into the afternoon. Portland should see mostly sunny skies by the afternoon, and a high near 90 degrees.
Extended forecasts are showing more sunny days Thursday and Friday, and temperatures staying warm, from 85-95, into the weekend.
