It take a special place for real estate agents to feel the need to describe a residence for sale, with a vaulted, beamed ceiling and log posts, as possessing a “mountain vibe.” But cooing is hard to resist with cabins on Mount Hood, Oregon’s tallest mountain and one of the most iconic peaks in North America.
Homes on the mountain sit on land with forested and sometimes water views, and are often steps from hiking, skiing or snowboarding trails. The dwellings are built in a variety of styles, from storybook log cabins and classic chalets to spare A frames and contemporary shed-roof forms.
Here are properties around Brightwood, Welches, Rhododendron and Government Camp for sale.
Huckleberry Mountain Lodge at 27900 E. Salmon River Road in Welches is for sale at $1.8 million. The estate, built in 1985 on 12 forested acres, has a rustic-elegant great room with a double-sided fireplace, a newly renovated kitchen, six bedrooms, four bathrooms and 4,989 square feet of living space.
Outdoors, you’ll find deck seating, game space, recessed hot tub and a three-stall barn with hay loft, pasture and riding arena.
“An active vacation rental with room for 16 guests, this property features endless opportunities for operating a successful income property or use it as a peaceful retreat to cultivate your own paradise,” says listing agent Becca Kolibaba of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices NW Real Estate.
A chalet-style house at 20803 E. Glacier View Road in Rhododendron is for sale at $1,699,000. The two-story, built in 2008 on 4.98 acres adjacent to the National Forest and Wilderness Area, has hickory floors, four bedrooms, three bathrooms and 3,368 square feet of living space.
“The focal point is a floor-to-ceiling wood-burning fireplace encased in stone, raised hearth with built-in wood storage and propane quick starter,” says listing agent Monique Farinha of Premiere Property Group.
The covered outdoor entertaining area also has a wood-burning, quick-start fireplace and TV hookup, and is wired for a hot tub. There is also an uncovered concrete patio, pathways around the home and paths from the property leading to and along the Sandy River.
A handcrafted custom log home along the Sandy River at 58200 E. Marmot Road in Sandy is for sale at $1,395,000.
The cabin, built in 1995 on 3.59 wooded acres with 320 feet of river frontage on both sides, has a gated entry. Inside, there is a vaulted great room with a wood-burning stove, four bedrooms, two bathrooms and 1,991 square feet of living space.
“A well-established and successful vacation rental for 20 years has prime steelhead and salmon fishing. The property neighbors federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land adding to the privacy,” says listing agent Wendy Vaday of Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty.
Outdoors, you’ll find a Finlandia sauna with shower, fire pit, gazebo and picnic area near the river, and a covered deck with hot tub. The property also has RV parking and hookups, a wood shed, detached pole building and a two-car carport.
Two traditional houses on 3.17 acres at 64750 E. Brightwood Loop Road in Brightwood are for sale at $825,000. The 1940 main residence has original hardwood floors, a living room with a fireplace, dining room with built-in cabinets and a mudroom with a dog wash area. There is also a 1,000-square-foot second residence. In total, there are seven bedrooms, five bathrooms and 3,154 square feet of living space.
Outdoors, there is a deck, large and small garages, and covered RV or boat storage.
“Introducing a remarkable investment opportunity. This outstanding property offers two homes as a unique and highly desirable package for savvy investors or multigenerational families,” says listing agent Ashley Troy of MORE Realty.
A furnished cabin steps from the Zigzag River at 78830 E. Road 35a #28 in Government Camp is for sale at $299,950. The home, built in 1915 and updated, has a stone-surrounded propane fireplace, two bedrooms, one bathroom and 614 square feet of living space.
“The outbuilding is perfect for storing winter toys or summer furniture,” says listing agent Liz Warren of Keller Williams PDX Central.
