Isaiah Hodgins needs to have a strong training camp with the New York Giants. The wide receiver is coming off a disappointing 2023 season and he’ll be on the roster bubble when the Giants begin camp on July 24.

The former Oregon State Beavers’ star had 21 catches for 230 yards and three touchdowns in 17 games in 2023, but the Giants were expecting more after Hodgins posted a strong 2022 season. Hodgins had 33 catches for 351 yards and four touchdowns in nine games after the Giants acquired him following his release by the Buffalo Bills in 2022. Hodgins caught eight passes for 105 yards and a touchdown during the Giants’ 31-24 win over the Minnesota Vikings in a wild card playoff game, becoming just the eighth player in franchise history to post at least 100 receiving yards in a playoff game.

Much has changed since Hodgins’ breakout performance in the playoff game. The Giants’ wide receiver room was ranked as one of the worst in the league in 2024 and management attempted to address the issue during the past offseason.

The Giants used their first-round pick (No. 6) to select LSU wide receiver Malik Nabors, who is expected to start in Week 1. Veteran Darius Slayton, third-year player Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt, a third-round pick (No. 73) in the 2023 NFL draft will likely compete for the second and third wide receiver spots. During the offseason, the team signed veteran Allan Robinson, who will be in the mix for one of next three wideout spots.

Hodgins will likely be competing against Dan Duggan, Gunner Olszewski, Isaiah McKenzie and Miles Boykin for the No. 5 wideout position. That’s a crowded bunch at the position and Hodgins must break through to earn a spot on the final 53-man roster.
