Oregon State Beavers countdown to kickoff: At No. 45, a freshman All-American and an LB who destroyed the Ducks

The Oregon State Beavers start the 2024 season Aug. 31 at home against Idaho State. The Oregonian/OregonLive will count down the days with mini-profiles of prominent former and current Beavers whose jersey numbers correspond with the days remaining until the opening kickoff.

Today, No. 45: Defensive lineman Dylan Wynn.

Dylan Wynn

Bio: Oregon State recruited the three-star prospect out of De La Salle High School (Concord, Calif.) where he won two state titles.

Key statistics: Wynn made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2011 with 44 tackles, including 5 1/2 for loss. He was named honorable mention freshman All-America by College Football News.

Wynn’s five fumble recoveries that season remain a program record.

Wynn, as a sophomore, registered 49 tackles, two for loss. The following season, he had a career-high 67 tackles, five for loss.

Wynn’s best season came as a senior in 2014 when he made 54 tackles, 12 for loss, with 4 1/2 sacks, and was named second-team All-Pac-12.

Wynn finished his career with 227 tackles and 24 1/2 for loss (top 20 all-time) with 7 1/2 sacks.

His eight career fumble recoveries rank tied for first all-time.

NFL: Wynn was signed to the Cleveland Browns practice squad as an undrafted rookie free agent. He has spent seven seasons in the CFL, where he has amassed 176 tackles with 29 sacks.

Derrick Doggett

Bio: Oregon State recruited Doggett out of University City High School (San Diego, Calif.).

Key statistics: Doggett finished his career with 222 tackles, 32 for loss, and eight sacks.

His 32 tackles for loss rank eighth all-time at OSU.

Doggett emerged as a star in 2006 when the junior had 93 tackles, 14 ½ for loss, and five sacks. As a senior in 2007, Doggett registered 93 tackles, 14 for loss, and three sacks. His 14 tackles for loss that season ranked fifth in the Pac-10.

Doggett earned second-team All-Pac-10 linebacker in his final two seasons.

Doggett was a menace against the Oregon Ducks. In 2006, he scored on a 34-yard interception return during a 30-28 OSU win in Corvallis.

The following year, he scored on a 28-yard interception return against the Ducks during a 38-31 victory at Autzen Stadium.

NFL: Doggett spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers but never appeared in an NFL game. He did, however, play two seasons in the CFL.
