Pilots’ Joey Gartrell, Canby alum, drafted by Red Sox in 15th round

The 2024 Portland Pilots have now seen three pitchers go in the 2024 MLB Draft, as Joey Gartrell was selected on Tuesday afternoon in the 15th round by the Boston Red Sox.

The 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher who went to Canby High School finished the 2024 season with a 4-4 record and a 5.23 ERA. In 20.2 innings pitched, he allowed a batting average of .274 and struck out 23 batters.

Gartrell is the third Pilot selected in the 2024 MLB Draft, with Sam Stuhr and Nick Brink both getting called on Monday. Gartrell, Stuhr and Brink are all also former Oregon high school standouts, with Stuhr going to McDaniel and Brink going to Cleveland.
