For more than a century, Portland’s four elected commissioners have, like the mayor, held citywide office.
That changed after the passage last November of Measure 26-228, which, among other things, creates a 12-member City Council spread across four geographic voting districts. A citizen-led group finalized the district boundaries earlier this month.
The city plans to hold its first elections under the new system, which includes all 12 new council seats as well as races for mayor and city auditor, in November 2024.
