Readers respond: Don’t ban fireworks without enforcement

Letters to the editor

Portland’s fireworks ban is a joke, (“Portland’s fireworks ban remains in effect before, during and after July Fourth,” June 24). There is a saying that rules without consequences are just suggestions.

With windows open to cool down the house, we listened to booms, whistles and crackling fireworks for hours on July 4, at least past midnight. I’m not promoting either side of this debate, but I do expect that when laws are issued, they will be followed. Offenders should be punished.
