Crohn’s disease has ravaged R. Mitchell Reed’s digestive system and left him in delicate health. He must undergo a colonoscopy-like procedure four times a year to dilate his small intestine and prevent bowel obstructions and other potentially fatal complications.
Reed, 69, said he was informed by Providence officials on Nov. 14 that his regularly scheduled procedure on Nov. 27 had been canceled due to a dire shortage of anesthesiologists.
