An 18-year-old recent graduate of Ida B. Wells High School has died from injuries he suffered in a crash after fleeing Gresham police in a car that had been reported stolen, Portland police said Monday.
Cole “CJ” Johnson died July 8 at a local hospital, police said.
Two other teens died at the scene of the June 25 crash near Southeast 139th Avenue and Division Street in Southeast Portland.
Gresham police had tried to stop the car around 12:15 a.m. but it fled, Portland police said. Gresham officers found the teens minutes later after they had crashed into another car and struck a utility pole, investigators said. A woman driver was also injured in the crash.
The other teens who died were 16-year-olds Dylan M. Brasky and Jayden M. Rolon-Ekis, both former sophomores at Wells who had recently transferred to Portland Community College. Johnson had graduated from Wells, school officials said.
Police said Rolon-Ekis was driving the car at the time of the crash.
